WanderGuard ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application designed to help monitor and protect people with dementia.
Key Point: WanderGuard stores all data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers.
1. Information We Collect
WanderGuard collects the following information, which is stored only on your device:
- Location Data: Real-time GPS coordinates to monitor whether the person is within the designated safe zone.
- Safe Zone Configuration: The geographic coordinates and radius of the safe zone you define.
- Phone Numbers: Family member phone numbers you enter for SMS alert notifications (maximum 3 numbers).
- App Settings: Your preferences for alerts, sounds, and vibration settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
The information collected is used exclusively for the following purposes:
- To track the device location and determine if it is within the configured safe zone.
- To send SMS alerts to designated family members when the person leaves the safe zone.
- To display location information within the app interface.
- To provide audio and vibration alerts based on your preferences.
3. Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using Android's SharedPreferences system. This includes:
- Safe zone coordinates and radius
- Family phone numbers
- Alert preferences
- Last known location
No data is transmitted to external servers or third parties. If you uninstall the app, all stored data will be permanently deleted.
4. Permissions Required
WanderGuard requires the following permissions to function:
- Location (Fine & Background): Required to continuously monitor the device location and detect when the person leaves the safe zone, even when the app is in the background.
- SMS: Required to send alert messages to family members when the person leaves the safe zone.
- Notifications: Required to display alerts and show the ongoing tracking notification.
- Internet: Required only for loading map tiles from OpenStreetMap. No personal data is transmitted.
- Boot Completed: Required to restart location tracking automatically after device reboot.
5. Third-Party Services
WanderGuard uses the following third-party services:
- OpenStreetMap: For displaying maps in the safe zone configuration screen. OpenStreetMap may collect anonymous usage data according to their own privacy policy.
- Google Play Services: For geofencing functionality and location services.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. The only information that leaves your device is:
- SMS messages sent to the phone numbers you configure (containing location coordinates).
- Map tile requests to OpenStreetMap servers (containing only geographic coordinates, not personal information).
7. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:
- All data is stored locally on your device.
- The app does not create user accounts or require registration.
- No data is transmitted to our servers because we do not operate any servers.
8. Children's Privacy
WanderGuard is designed to help monitor adults with dementia and is not intended for use with children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 years of age.
9. Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- You can delete the safe zone configuration at any time through the app settings.
- You can remove stored phone numbers at any time.
- You can uninstall the app to permanently delete all stored data.
- You can revoke permissions through your device settings at any time.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a new "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
